Itinerary
Day 1
Broome – Cockatoo Island
Pick up from your accommodation and transferred to K2O. Our highly
experienced crew will welcome you on board and then will set course for
Cape Leveque and the Buccaneer Archipelago. Spend the afternoon
relaxing on board and familiarising yourself with your home for the next week.
Enjoy the K2O hospitality and get to know your crew. K2O has an open bridge
policy so feel free to go and talk to the Captain and check out the state of
the art navigation and satellite communications on board. Passing the Cape,
we steam across the King Sound and head towards Cockatoo Island where
there are hundreds of islands that make up the Buccaneer Archipelago.
Enjoy watching the ancient landscape in the fading red light of the Kimberley
sun while enjoying a few drinks on deck.
Day 2
Cockatoo Island - Kingfisher Islands
The next morning you will wake to the sound of the crew preparing the three
barra punts. En route, we make our way past the narrow entrances and huge
whirlpools that guard this remote fishing location. This is a renown area for the
targeting the massive Mackerel and Trevally that or found in the area.
After a good morning fishing, relax on board as we steam northward towards
the Kingfisher Islands. Tides permitting, we will head out for a sunset fish as
these Islands are becoming known for some of the best reef fishing in the
Kimberley. You will experience catching a wide variety of fish including the
awesome Golden Snapper, Blue Bone Groper, Red Emperor and many other
prized reef fish. Enjoy the evening atmosphere on board as we savour a
great day in the Kimberley.
Day 3
Montgomery Reef
An early steam to the picturesque Montgomery Reef affords us the
opportunity to explore this ancient sandstone reef where you will witness the
spectacular sight of hundreds of cascading waterfalls pouring into the crystal
clear ocean as the tide subsides. Cruise Turtle Alley to see large numbers of
Green Turtles feeding and a plethora of fish and occasionally the rare
Dugong swimming around. Return to the K2O for a hearty lunch then all
aboard the tenders for another chance to test your strength against that
mighty Trevally and Queen Fish. Heading back to the K2O to freshen up,
count the catches and enjoy the stories from each other’s day whilst the
Captain pulls the anchor to head to our next destination.
Day 4
Doubtful Bay - Red Cone Creek
The Kimberley is renowned for its scenery and today you will find out why.
Wake up in the surrounds of beautiful mangroves, and even spot a croc or
two swimming by. With no time to waste, we board the tenders and head
out to fish the incoming tide for Barra in the hope of catching tonight’s dinner.
After lunch, take the opportunity to cool off in the beautiful “Ruby Falls”. Take
the easy climb to the top of the falls and marvel at the pristine billabongs and
the interesting flora and fauna. That night dine on a Kimberley seafood
banquet under the Kimberley night sky.
Day 5
Three Ways River
It was not far to go to wake up in yet another pristine river system. Onto the
Barra punts and after a short boat ride you will have the opportunity to enjoy
some of the best fishing of the trip so far. This area holds many varieties of fish
and our crew know where to find them. Spend the morning fishing for Barra,
Finger Mark and Mangrove Jack.
Returning to K2O, cool off in air conditioned comfort whilst tucking into
another delicious and satisfying lunch.
The Raft Point area is spectacular and the fishing can wait for most people as
we trek to a secluded rock art gallery to view some of the best preserved
Wandjana art in the Kimberley. The views of Steep Island and beyond are
worth the walk on their own. For those people that prefer to stay back, take
up the opportunity to try your luck fishing the reefs in the area. Before you
realize, the sun is setting and as you relax with a cold drink, we must depart to
catch the tide to negotiate the narrow ‘Funnel’ entrance of Secure Bay.
Day 6
Secure Bay
The Kimberley coast never ceases to amaze and, waking up in Secure Bay is
no exception!! Enjoy a cooked breakfast in anticipation of a full day of
angling activities before following the rising tide into the depths of secluded
tidal lagoons. Let your guide take you to some of those secret spots, privy
only to our crew!! We explore several creeks and river systems to sight fish in
the shallows like the tasty Thread Fin Salmon or anchor adjacent to rock bars
that hide Barra ready to come on the bite when the tide is right. For those
who wish to take a break from the fishing, join one of our guides to hunt for
the succulent mud crabs. After an exciting morning fishing, we head back to
the K2O for a freshly prepared lunch. With no time to waste, it is back on
board the tenders for more fishing. Returning to K2O after a big day out in the
creeks, everyone is anxious to exchange stories of untold strength and
perseverance against the fish.
Day 7
Silver gull Creek –One Arm Point
Early risers have the opportunity to pursue another fishing opportunity. Today
we fish the rising tide that flows quickly into the creeks that hold many
surprises and your about to find out about a few of them. While some fish for
others may choose to collect the abundant oysters ready for the irresistible
evening seafood banquet. Back together, the group head out for a BBQ
lunch with the Kimberley’s famous local characters at Silvergull Creek. You
will be inspired by their oasis and certainly enjoy a refreshing freshwater swim.
We weigh anchor in the late afternoon and turn our bow toward One Arm
Point, passing through the Koolan Island passage before making our passage
across the King Sound.
Day 8
One Arm Point - Broome
This day has come all too soon. But the adventure is not over yet. After a
quick goodbye you will be transferred to the remote airstrip where your
charter aircraft awaits to return you to Broome. On arrival in Broome, you will
be met by a K2O representative and our courtesy car will transport you to
your chosen accommodation.
Notes
Accommodation in Broome is not included; however our staff are only too happy to offer assistance in finding suitable accommodation. Flights to/from One Arm Point are included (one way). On board K2O there is a “Fish for the Future” policy.
Due to the influencing factors of tide and weather this and any other itinerary is subject to change and should be used as a guide only.
